Korean Fried Chicken Review – Norang Tongdak Green Onion Chicken

As soon as I got home today, I found myself craving fried chicken. After thinking about it for a while, I ended up ordering Norang Tongdak’s Green Onion Chicken.

My wife and I ordered it for delivery, along with a bottle of soju. The chicken cost about KRW 23,000, and with the delivery fee, the total came to around KRW 26,000. Chicken has definitely become more expensive than it used to be, but for an occasional dinner at home, I didn’t mind paying the price.

I’ve always loved fried chicken, but green onion chicken has always been my favorite. Like most Korean chicken brands, Norang Tongdak offers a variety of menu items, including seasoned and original fried chicken. However, when it comes to green onion chicken, I think original crispy fried chicken is the best choice. The crispy coating topped with fresh shredded green onions and sweet-and-tangy green onion dressing is what truly completes this dish.

Eating plain fried chicken by itself can sometimes feel a little greasy, but adding the fresh green onions makes it much lighter and more refreshing. The crisp texture of the onions and the flavorful dressing balance out the richness perfectly, making it easy to enjoy until the very last bite. It’s one of the reasons why green onion chicken is my favorite.

Once we started eating, we couldn’t stop piling plenty of green onions on top of each piece of chicken. It’s a combination that never disappoints. The onions cut through the richness while adding a fresh aroma that keeps you reaching for another bite.

And of course, fried chicken isn’t complete without soju. Taking a bite of crispy chicken followed by a cold glass of soju was the perfect way to unwind after a long day. Sitting down with my wife, chatting while enjoying our meal, made the evening even more enjoyable.

One thing that makes Norang Tongdak unique is that the chicken is aged before cooking, and a small amount of curry powder is mixed into the batter. You can actually notice a subtle curry aroma in the crispy coating. It’s not overpowering at all—it simply enhances the savory flavor of the chicken and gives it a distinctive character that sets it apart from other fried chicken brands.

The crispy exterior, juicy meat, crunchy green onions, and tangy sauce reminded me once again why I enjoy green onion chicken so much.

Sometimes, instead of going out for an expensive meal, sharing a whole chicken and a bottle of soju with my wife at home is all it takes to make a great evening. The next time I’m craving fried chicken, I’ll probably order Norang Tongdak’s Green Onion Chicken again.

If you’re visiting Korea, I think Norang Tongdak is one of the fried chicken brands you should try at least once. If you want to experience Korean-style green onion chicken, I highly recommend ordering the original crispy version. The combination of crispy fried chicken, fresh green onions, and sweet-and-tangy sauce perfectly showcases why Korean fried chicken is loved by so many people.

For those who aren’t familiar with the brand, Norang Tongdak is a Korean fried chicken chain that traces its roots back to 1979, inspired by the classic style of traditional Korean whole fried chicken. The brand is known for using aged chicken and adding a hint of curry powder to its batter, creating a light, savory flavor that has made it a favorite among Korean chicken lovers for many years.
