From Landing at Incheon Airport to Getting to Seoul

From Landing at Incheon Airport to Getting to Seoul (A Real Local Guide)

This is how it usually goes after your plane lands:

Flight Arrival → Immigration → Baggage Claim → Customs → Choose Transportation

It’s easier than you think.

1. Get Off the Plane

Incheon International Airport

Once the plane door opens, just follow the crowd.

You’ll see signs like:

  • Arrivals (도착)

Just follow that.

Tip: Do NOT follow “Transfer”. Make sure you go toward Arrivals.

2. Immigration

Prepare these before you get in line:

  • Passport
  • Arrival card (if required)
  • Q-code (if required)

Foreigners usually have a separate line.

Waiting time:

  • Fast: 10 minutes
  • Normal: 30–60 minutes
Local Tip: Late night and early morning can be crowded.

3. Baggage Claim

After immigration, check the screen.

Example:

KE652 → Belt 8

Find your flight number and go to that belt.

Usually takes 10–30 minutes.

4. Customs

After collecting your bags:

  • Nothing to Declare
  • Goods to Declare

Most travelers use the green lane (Nothing to Declare).

Once you pass here, you’re officially in Korea.

Now Choose How to Go to Seoul

Once you exit, you are in the arrival hall.

You now have 3 options:

  • AREX Train
  • Airport Bus
  • Taxi

A. How to Take the Train (Best Recommendation)

For Terminal 1:

Look for signs:

Airport Railroad / AREX

Just keep following them.

AREX is located at B1 Transportation Center.

Buy T-money First

T-money

Convenience stores on the way:

  • CU
  • GS25
  • 7-Eleven

  • Card: around ₩4,000
  • Recommended top-up: ₩10,000

How to Buy a Ticket

Use the machine in front of the AREX gate.

Languages available:

  • English
  • Chinese
  • Japanese

Very beginner-friendly.

Where Should You Get Off?

If going to Hongdae:

Take AREX All Stop.

Why? It stops directly at Hongik University Station.

About 58 minutes.

If going to Seoul Station:

  • Express (faster)
  • All Stop (cheaper)

Express takes 43 minutes.

If going to Gangnam:

Take AREX to Hongdae or Seoul Station, then transfer.

It’s a little complicated.

Bus is often easier for Gangnam.

B. How to Take the Airport Bus

Best option if you have a lot of luggage.

Follow signs:

Bus / Airport Limousine

Terminal 1 bus stops are right outside on the 1st floor.

Examples:

  • 5B
  • 6A
  • 11A

It depends on your destination.

Buy tickets at:

Bus Ticket Counter

Tell the staff your destination.

Example:

“Myeongdong”

They’ll tell you which bus number to take.

Popular destinations:

  • Myeongdong
  • Gangnam
  • Dongdaemun
  • Jamsil
Local Tip: If your hotel is near a bus stop, this is the easiest option.

C. How to Take a Taxi

The easiest option.

Follow signs:

Taxi

There is an official taxi line outside.

Estimated fares:

  • Myeongdong: ₩47,000–₩52,000
  • Gangnam: ₩53,000–₩58,500

Additional highway toll:

₩7,900

Local Tip: Never take unofficial taxi offers. Use the official taxi line only.

My Recommendation

  • Solo traveler + light luggage: AREX
  • Heavy luggage + hotel drop-off: Bus
  • Family trip + late night: Taxi

Honestly, Incheon Airport is one of the easiest airports in Asia for first-time visitors.

If you just follow “Arrivals”, you’re already halfway done.
